June 6, 2009, Sacramento, CA – The California Storm celebrated a 4 – 1 win in their 2009 home opener against the FC Sacramento Pride. The weather was cool and breezy but the players on the field were "en fuego" with two goals and an assist from Sissi, and goals by Fiona O'Sullivan and Nikki Gutierrez. Sissi's first incredible goal was scored from about 40 yards out, and she kept things lively in the midfield with "ball skills tutorials." Rookies Norma Mendez, Cynthia Johnson, and Hope Siffert maintained a strong back line with Jaime Souza holding strong in the goal to keep the Pride's scoring chances down to virtually nil.
The Storm's strong chemistry on and off the field was evident in their ability to make plays and create scoring opportunities. Three games down and eight to go. . .
