Magic Players win honors for strong collegeseasons

With a successful 2009 collegiate season behind them, Millburn Magic's players

collected multiple honors and awards for their performances. Harvard's Kat Sheeleigh was named to the First Team All-Ivy League for the third time. She led Harvard in scoring with eight goals and 21 points and netted four game-winning tallies. She scored twice in Harvard's 2-1 win over Dartmouth, clinching Harvard's second straight Ivy League title and was third in the Ivy League in points and fourth in goals.

In the Big East Conference, Villanova's Katie Ryan was awarded Second Team All-Conference. She leads the entire BIG EAST Conference in points and is tied for the league lead in goals scored. In 20 starts on the year, Ryan has tallied 11 goals, seven assists and 29 points to lead Villanova in all three

categories.

Millburn's Keeper, Lia Fierro of Monmouth, was recognized with a First Team All-North East Conference award. Fierro, who has made 53 saves on the year, also ranks 16th in the nation for goals against average (.542), which ranks 12th in Division I in team goals against average. Also receiving top honors, was Loyola's Lina Staropoli, named to the MAAC First Team. Staropoli started 19 of the team's 20 games during the regular season at back/midfielder and recorded a goal and a pair of assists.

Mid-fielder Katy Fissel earned First Team All-Freedom Conference for her performance with Wilkes University despite being injured for most of the season. She played in 10 games for the Lady Colonels, scoring three goals and two assists for a total of eight points.

Wesleyan freshman forward Laura Kurash was named both Second-Team All NESCAC and the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Although she missed more than half of the season due to injury, Kurash still managed to lead the Cardinals in scoring with six goals, including three game-winners, and three assists for 15 points.

Playing for Kean University, Lara Kaminski earned NJAC second-team honors for the third time in her career. One of just two players to start all 19 games this season, including all nine in conference play, she scored both of her goals in NJAC games from the midfield.
